The College of Engineering is fortunate to maintain a strong corporate partnership with General Motors. Over the years General Motors has supported projects and activities that have benefited hundreds of students, helping them gain the skills, experience, and motivation to become outstanding professionals in the field of engineering.
General Motors makes it a priority to support programs that bring underrepresented minorities and women into the engineering workforce; the Minority and Women’s Programs in our Student Success Center have especially benefited from GM’s generosity. GM also supports Leading with Integrity, a program that develops students’ sense of community, self-awareness, relationship-building skills, understanding of teamwork, and concepts of diversity. By supporting these programs, GM exhibits its dedication to building strong, diverse communities within the world of engineering.
General Motors support doesn't stop at the undergraduate level. The company also provides annual fellowship support to students in the Master of Engineering program. The GM Automotive Projects Facility is home to . The team recently brought home their 8th world championship, carrying the General Motors name to the finish line in first place.
Our relationship with General Motors is indeed a two-way street. Kent Fuchs, the Joseph Silbert Dean of Engineering, visited General Motors in May 2003 and attended the Formula SAE 2003 competition. General Motors corporate executives and engineers make frequent trips to our campus to meet with engineering faculty and students. These one-on-one meetings help to ensure that General Motors remains at the forefront within the educational community, contributing to the future of engineering by preparing Cornell engineers to meet the demands of the corporate world. The Office of Corporate Relations strives to keep the lines of communication open among faculty, staff, students, and corporations.
The relationship between our college and General Motors is a model corporate connection; we are proud to be a part of it.
