Degree Programs
The Department of Biomedical Engineering is a university-wide unit that bridges biology, medicine, and engineering. The program is responsible for coordination and delivery of educational programs in Biomedical Engineering (BME) including a minor in BME; a new Master of Engineering in BME; a coherent curriculum for BS/MEng students; and an MS/PhD.
Biomedical Engineering is also responsible for development of research with an emphasis on biomedical mechanics; biomaterials; Drug delivery, design, production and metabolism; biomedical instrumentation and diagnostics; and systems and computational bioengineering.
Graduates of the BME programs are able to integrate their engineering skills with the life sciences to meet the demands of a discipline that is rapidly evolving.
While relatively new to Cornell, the department has evolved from a 45-year history of bioengineering research and education at the university. Among the faculty are members of the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering, and fellows of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineers.
