You can request that transfer credit be applied toward your Cornell engineering degree. We strongly encourage students considering completing coursework at other colleges or universities to get pre-approval from their academic advisor for the courses they are interested in.
If you are an undergraduate student in Cornell University’s College of Engineering and will be taking classes at another university or college, follow these steps to transfer credit toward your Cornell degree:
Step 1: Obtain a description for the course you plan to complete.
Step 2: Pick up a College of Engineering Transfer Credit Application in the Engineering Registrar’s Office, 158 Olin Hall. You will need to pick up one application for each course you enroll in.
Step 3: Complete the student section of the application.
Step 4: If you are applying for transfer credit to satisfy requirements in mathematics, science, or engineering courses or the First-Year Writing Seminars, you must receive approval from the Cornell department offering an equivalent course. If you are applying for transfer credit to satisfy liberal studies distribution or elective requirements, you do not need departmental approval.
Step 5: Take the application to your academic advisor for approval.
Step 6: Take the application and course description to the Engineering Advising Office, 167 Olin Hall, for approval.
Step 7: Have official transcripts for the courses you wish to transfer mailed to the Engineering Registrar’s Office. Credit assessments cannot be finalized without official transcripts.
The Engineering Advising Office will review your request and determine if the course you would like to transfer is eligible for credit towards your Cornell engineering degree. If so, the Engineering Registrar’s Office records the official recognition of credit assignment. To check whether you have received credit, visit and review your academic record under the Grades tab.
