Introduction

ADA requirements for fully online and hybrid courses (part online and part remote) require that all videos be fully captioned.  Spring 2020 was an emergency exception.  Cornell now expects that all online videos for any course will be captioned.

This document lists the steps for instructors and their assistants to make class videos accessible and ADA compliant for the Fall 2020 semester. Over the summer, a team worked with instructors in the first segment of the summer session to determine:

  1. the effort required to create 100% accurate captions (auto-captioning with human, manual corrections) , and
  2. best practices to efficiently generate sufficiently accurate captions to process and publish ADA compliant videos.

The goal of this document is to provide a streamlined process for a variety of recording options. Whether you record to the cloud using Zoom, or record locally and upload your videos to Canvas, the following pages should have you covered.
