Malika Grayson, Ph.D. '16, was the first Black American woman to graduate with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Her research focused on building morphology in urban areas for wind energy generation.
Grayson made a large impact during her time at Cornell and continues to do so after completing her Ph.D. in 2016. Grayson shares her experience in her new book, ‘HOODED: A Black Girl’s Guide to the PhD.’ She works to increase the number of minority women who matriculate through graduate school by sharing her journey and experiences. Grayson encourages women and minorities through motivational speaking, webinars, and workshops. She has a number of speaking experiences including engagements at a number of universities, corporations and conferences.
