Cornell NanoScale Facility Tour

The Cornell NanoScale Science and Technology Facility is one of the leading nanotechnology facilities in the country. Learn about the promise of nanotechnology and Cornell's role in this exciting field. A short talk will give an overview of what we do and how we do it. We'll then take a walking tour through Duffield Hall and discuss the tools available to our users.

Investigating the Secrets of Volcanoes

Volcanoes are more than the destruction they cause. The planet's habitability, critical elements for technology and energy, climate stability, and even the air we breathe depend on volcanoes and their balancing processes between the inner and outer Earth. Recently, the Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma, in Spain’s Canary Islands, suddenly exploded into a river of fire after lying dormant for half a century. Join us to hear what researchers have learned from this eruption’s field and lab work, and how this data will inform future preparations and response to volcanic eruptions to reduce their impact on the environment and society, even far away from eruption sites.

Featured Speaker:

Esteban Gazel, Charles N. Mellowes Professor in Engineering, Faculty Fellow, Atkinson Center for Sustainability

Where:

1120 Snee Hall

When:

4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
