Summer Study and Research Abroad Opportunities

With all the great opportunities on-campus at Cornell, you might not want to study abroad during a fall or spring semester. If you feel that you can not study abroad during the academic year, you might consider integrating an international experience through summer study or research abroad. Spending a summer doing coursework or research is a wonderful way to enrich your education.

The Office of Global Learning advisors are a valuable resource to help you find and evaluate summer opportunities. The office maintains a wealth of information on summer programs, work abroad, internships abroad, and volunteer opportunities abroad. Every summer, new opportunities arise, so look through all the options carefully. There might be a unique opportunity that matches your needs and interests.

Participating in summer research is meaningful step to gain experience in engineering and to create a well-rounded education. There are many resources for students interested in research, whether it is conducted domestically or internationally. Students should consult with their Faculty Advisors, Engineering Learning Initiatives, and the Engineering Career Center about their research interests. Programs with international research locations include:

The Off-Campus Opportunities Fund (OCOF) is a common application for students seeking financial support for off-campus experiences. Depending on applicant and program eligibility criteria, students may be eligible for funding for a summer experience.

The Engineering International Experience Grant offers summer support for Engineering undergraduates who have secured an international research experience that complements their academic experience and/or enhances their career goals.
