Incoming Engineering First-Year Students:
Starting in early May, Engineering Advising will email new first year students weekly throughout the summer with important information as it relates to the college common curriculum, AP and transfer credit, preparing for fall semester pre-enroll, and so much more! It is your responsibility to visit this website and to check your Cornell email account weekly between now and your arrival in August for continued information, deadlines, and updates from the College of Engineering.
Several items require your attention in the coming weeks and throughout the rest of the summer. Each will help ensure that you are prepared for your academic transition in the fall. Please read through the following carefully.

| Due Now | Activate NetID, Cornell Email, and Two-Step Login Your NetID is a unique identifier that provides access to your Cornell email and other non-public Cornell resources and information. You will need access to your Cornell email to continue engaging with Engineering Advising this summer. Your NetID will also be needed for other tasks this summer. The university will send information via email about activating your NetID after Cornell has received your deposit. If you have not received your NetID by May 13th or have questions about the NetID activation process, please contact the IT Service Desk by calling (607) 255-5500 or by emailing itservicedesk@cornell.edu. |
| Due May 20th | Take the Required Math Diagnostic (use either Chrome or Firefox) The Math Diagnostic’s primary purpose is to assess your readiness for the first course in the Engineering math sequence. Students are expected to be at the level of Calculus II for the start of their first fall semester. However, all students entering for fall must take the Math Diagnostic. This is not a placement test for your fall course, but it does assess your readiness for your first math course in fall and helps us understand what, if any, additional support resources you need over the summer to best prepare for fall. A score below 127 on the Math Diagnostic indicates that students will benefit from some review or additional study of calculus to prepare to enter MATH 1910 in the fall. You can learn more about Choosing Your First Math Class on the Engineering Advising website now, and moredetailed information will be provided prior to course pre-enrollment in July. |
| Due May 20th | Complete the Required Student Advising Profile (SAP) (use either Chrome or Firefox) The SAP allows us to get to know you and match your interests with those of your faculty advisor. Nothing you report in the SAP will be binding, particularly your major interests. Before completing the SAP, and regardless of how certain you are of your intended major, we invite you to familiarize yourself with all 14 Engineering undergraduate programs. You must complete the Math Diagnostic first to gain access to the SAP. |
| June - August | Engineering Advising Virtual Drop-In Hours Drop-ins are for quick, 10-15-minute questions as they relate to the topics of our weekly communications. Drop-ins are first come, first served. You may have to wait to speak with an advisor if another student is ahead of you. If that is the case, you will be in the Zoom waiting room until an advisor is available. Virtual drop-in hours will begin in June. More information to come! |
| June 5th | Summer Webinar #1 (registration link to come, families invited!) Our first summer webinar will introduce you to the Engineering Advising team and discuss the Cornell Engineering Common Curriculum as you begin to prepare to choose courses for the fall. |
| June | Transfer Credit Review Students who have completed college credit during high school may have STEM courses reviewed this summer to inform their course enrollment decisions. More information will be released about the process in later emails. |
| Due July 1st | Submit Final High School Grade Report and Official Transcript Please be sure to have your high school submit a final high school grade report, including a final official transcript, to Cornell via the Common Application or the Universal College Application. The final grade report and transcript are required parts of the admission process. |
| July 10th | Summer Webinar #2 (registration link to come, families invited!) Our second summer webinar will detail the pre-enrollment (course registration) process. Students enroll themselves in their courses at Cornell – even in their first year. This session will help you determine which courses are right for you. |
| July 22nd - July 25th | Pre-Enrollment Period for Incoming First Year Students The pre-enrollment period for incoming first year students is expected to occur in mid-July. More information will be released later. This is the only time this summer during which you will be able to enroll in courses for the fall. This period will not be extended and cannot be changed. It is your responsibility to enroll in courses via Student Center during this time. |
